It's a very interesting observation and I think the rant element is a continuation of what many republicans have thought for a long time. There has been no debate about it whilst the Queen was still alive - in a large part because of the person she was and the respect she earned through years and years of service. Those of us younger than 70 have had our hand forced by the power of traditions that existed long before we were born.
There is perhaps an opportunity for a wider discussion and debate at this point. One which has been already closed off by strong feelings about the Queen. My frustration is that many of the feelings about the Queen are rooted in the same people who are so determined to throw every other single facet of normal life under the bus in the name of progress. Everything but the monarchy.... and I have absolutely no idea why.
England was always going to react like this - and the window for dissent and discussions will rapidly close. I hope we see the end of monarchy in my lifetime but until we're allowed to have the debate in a public forum without being shouted down, feelings will outweigh reason.
Excellent observation as always. Can't sneak a rant past you can I?
