It's all personal choice really and you'll find what works for you in the fullness of time. I agree in some ways that oversharing isn't ideal - I don't actually put a lot of 'me' into my writing and I remain firmly behind the mask of penguinity. This limits overshare when compared with other authors like Shannon Ashley, who often lays bare her entire life, marriage, child's life and emotional thought process. I'm very feelings light and humour heavy.

What you get is an authentic voice though. this is exactly what it's like to sit and talk to me. Random asides and all. Your comments have a nice and friendly tone - and this may be a good starting point for you to think about the style of your articles. Phrases like 'listening to grumps' are wonderful.

And don't worry, timidity can be overcome - go forth and make all the mistakes everyone makes when they're starting out and keep developing as a writer and above all else, keep writing.
