It's because there's so much potential for good writing when new people come to the platform. Most people have interesting things to say and are interesting people if you give them a chance to skill up and unlock that part of themselves.

Instead, they get shoehorned into the DennigQueue or into a ZulieRane seminar and turn into productivity automatons. Their writing doesn't get any better and they eventually burn out and leave before they've said anything of interest. Off the beaten track there are some fascinating people who, if they can be turned away from the path of capitalism early enough will blossom into awesomely interesting indie writers.

I've been here long enough and been fortunate enough to read writers across their entire Medium lifespan and the ones that really make a difference to my enjoyment are the ones who write their own way. You can teach people how to write - but you can't teach people how to be interesting. I'd rather find interesting people and encourage them to develop their voice nice and slowly, than escalate a whole bunch of novices into competent content mills.

I guess I get a bit rage at the potential of what Medium could be - and occasionally lash out at the people who deviate from my dream. Like a flightless fascist.
