It's defintely not necessarily a leftist thing, but it's certainly being used very assertively by leftists at the moment. I'm broadly centre ground on such things...

I'm not convinced that the mob can differentiate transgressions and minor slip ups. I don't necessarily also have a problem with boycotting things you disagree with - you just have to be sure that you're boycotting the right thing and that there is a process to your boycotting that is rooted in fact.

On Medium I can find articles that suggest very candidly that individuals accused of a crime are guilty of that crime because they have been accused. The #MeToo movement which began with Weinstein and Epstein being accused, arrested, sent to trial and convicted and jailed.... was then quickly replaced by the cancellation of Aziz Ansari, Johnny Depp et al at the point of accusation. This is a dangerous precedent for a society to set. I don't trust groupthink.

I'm wary of any movement that questions the sovereign right of the individual, creative or otherwise. It's not that I disagree with the direction in which they intend to push society, just with the tools they're using. It's a dangerous weapon, unwieldy and indiscriminate. At the moment it's being held up as a beacon with which to smash the injustice of the world and hold evil to account - it'll only take a few mutations before the evil is you.

The penguins are already against you.
