I've been blocked by Rebecca Stevens for a long time - and that's because I questioned whether one of the main writers on race and racism on Medium should be someone who lists hang-gliding and globe-trotting as their hobbies. What Ms Stevens says is very eloquent and she is an exceptionally good writer - but there is a total failure to see the complexity of the human condition. If you can gather huge amounts of money writing about how someone snubbed you at a socialite wedding and insist this is where the conversation should be focussed, then we aren't really talking about meaningful change for the vast majority of Black folks, we're talking about the social mobility of the middle class Black folks, those least oppressed by the systemic racism they insist oppresses everyone.
