I've been to China once and I felt like an absolute tank. In the UK I'm pretty much average sized; at the time I also had long blonde hair. My friend (fluent mandarin speaker) killed himself laughing because as we went past a small child, she asked her mother what the hell I was - nothing like that conversation for a confidence boost. In reality I didn't mind, people from different countries are built differently and I'm as dubious as you about fat acceptance - some body positivity probably a good thing, but too much and you're sitting in health denial. :o)
