I’ve got good news! This article is old and Medium effectively closed GEN this March. It was an in-house publication with a staff team of writers whose work started well but rapidly dropped off in quality and nuance over the long run it had.

Medium took the money they were paying those journalists and turned it into bonus schemes and now competitions. I couldn’t be happier. :o)
