I've never been a parent, but I can imagine it must've been baffling to have social media arrive. I was technically part of a 'corporate parent' when I worked in social care - and we definitely were not able to keep kids safe. Most children in care were banned from having any form of smartphone.... they'd use it to contact people they weren't supposed to.... which is great, unless of course you send them to school where everyone else has a smartphone. Technology far outstripped our collective ability to keep those kids safe in the same way you probably did with your daughters. Many of those kids are now in their early twenties, and I think we've got a mini-generation of anxious and socially scarred young adults. :o/
