Justice does indeed demand these things, and you seem to suggest I don't think Trump should be tried. I think he should - for all the reasons you've listed above. But as with all fights and all battles, you need to select the best terrain and the best timing - I'm not convinced forging ahead with brand new law a year before the election is picking the right terrain or the right timing.

For what it's worth, I think they should've had the Stormy Daniels stuff ready to go the second he left office, likely secured a conviction and booted him off into bitter obscurity and then once THIS election was complete and he was starved of the oxygen of attention, tried him then as a private citizen who used to be a politician but who has two failed bids to his name.

You could've talked about the prosecutions you intended to bring - but I wouldn't have brought them. Here endeth the gratuitous advice... although I am a foreign spectator, if the US elects a pro-Putin radical isolationist then there are some serious implications for NATO and where I live. :o/
