Let me flip the narrative for you. At some point Jews were colonially oppressed and booted out of the Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah, sure they came back under Cyrus the Great, but eventually they went a wandering around Europe. Now they would like to retake possession of their ancestral homeland. Are they colonising or re-claiming? How would you deal with this if the Lakota claimed their land back in 1000 years? Would they be colonisers, or would they be reclaiming? Is there a 'use by date' on ancestral lands or once again, does it come down to simply which bit of history you choose to focus on to suit your political agenda?
I see your 19th Century Herzl and raise you the Merneptah Stele (circa 1208 BCE) - the earliest mention of Israeli population in the region.
