Liberals (like what I am) are pretty much of the opinion that people can think what they like. The fact that JP doesn't think trans people are real is up to him - what liberals won't allow him to do is hijack the mechanisms of law. People can and should be allowed to think and say what they like (although I appreciate I'm more of a free speech advocate than you).

And Peterson's view is the same as mine... people can request to be called whatever they like. I might call you Miss Beau, you might prefer Ms or Mrs. We can fall out about it if we want.... but the second you attempt to compel me through legal mechanisms, we have an issue.

As it happens I recently wrote a trans-inclusive pantomime and worked closely with a trans-actor, I had no problems with their pronouns and they were lovely - I still would disagree with being compelled by law to use pronouns against my will. I don't believe the law should compel anyone to say anything they don't want to.

And yes, perhaps his views are laced with transphobia but that doesn't mean what he says isn't valid. I often dislike people who's views are laced with Christianity, but we still have to share a society with them - and that means treading a careful middle ground. I will campaign to have unelected Bishops thrown out of the House of Lords, but I'm not going to campaign to have them renounce their views just because i disagree and because they're laced with Jesus.
