Looks like you've nailed it WaldoTheMagnifico. This comment has been received read and now I'm replying to it. I'm sure you'll love it here, there's a wide variety of things to read - some of them are harder to find than others.

For context, Medium has leaned heavily left for a long time and has been pushing professional writers for the last year or so in their own publications. That era is over, and now indie writers (individuals without a background in journalism) are finding their work being promoted a little more. That includes me. Other similar writers you might want to read include Steve QJ and to some extent Joe Duncan - both excellent writers.

Don't worry too much about clapping - it used to be a very important thing a few years ago when calculating earnings - but now that amount is worked out based on how much time people spend reading.

Keep experimenting and don't worry about getting things wrong. You'll get the hang of it and it'll become more intuitive the more you use the platform. You won't break the place - and you'll very quickly get recommended things you like to read once you find some favourite authors to follow and the algorithm gets a handle on the sort of things you like to read.
