Medium made a huge mistake when they moved away from elevating pitches into running their own publications - they effectively enabled a team of journalists to become gatekeepers and now the whole place skews heavily into the political zeitgeist. Say what everyone is thinking and you'll be promoted, challenge the status quo, you won't make it through the front door.

Medium previously curated quality and sought indepedent articles that flew under the radar and then kicked them upwards in the algortithm. It wasn't a perfect system, but it was a better system than the current one. It's now a quasi-online-lefty-newspaper-cum-newsletter that plays into the existing biases of its various editorial teams. I don't have a problem with this, but it's not what I pay my subscription for. Lots of my peers (class of 2018) are writing far less these days and eventually you'll see big names leave the site entirely.

When that happens (and as Jack says), Medium will swing back in favour of the little guy. Then I'll come back and write properly - for now though I'm happy to read and leave the occasional comment to drive traffic to articles worth engaging with. I have no interest in writing for publications or playing the game. I've got a writing career to crack on with - I'll be back when the current Medium Gods have fallen.
