Mindset of persistence isn't necessary; the real trick is to show up for the sheer enjoyment of the writing. Whether or not people engage with you is neither here nor there - many will, but only if you show and write what you feel is both true and compelling. The commitment is to the craft rather than the outcome - I am a far better writer now than I was 5 years ago. :o)
