Neurodivergence is about the divergent presentation in brain structure of those who have have autistic traits suggesting there may be complicated underlying causes. Neurodivergence as it was originally intended was about this - but with respect, that is not how it is understood and used now. It has been seized and problematically applied to a whole bunch of behaviours and variations in thinking. Ir is now understood to mean ‘not behaving normally’ - without a definition of ‘normal’ and this is problematic. It renders the word useless and the actual discussion moot. If the word now includes ‘dyslexia’ or ‘being clumsy’ then it misses the point - and doing this waters down the original scientific insights. That’s what this article is about. :o)
