No. People at the time were very clear. Depp was an abuser, there was no need for anything other than Amber Heard to say her piece and for the accusation to stand as truth. At the time, even voicing a 'we should wait and see' or 'this should be dealt with in the courts' was tantamount to being the worst sort of minsogynst you could ever be.
Their relationship was toxic, the abuse was likely back and forth between the two of them. They're both abusers and they're both victims and that's what the protracted court battles are likely to show.
I suspect that they could have walked away at the end of their marriage and just never spoken to each other again. It would've been best to chalk it up to experience. However, once she wrote an op-ed pretty about domestic abuse what else could Depp do to defend himself other than mutually assured destruction? And it's going to drag on and on, this isn't done. It's two damaged people using vast wealth and resources in a no-win-battle.
The whole thing has shone a light on the unpleasant nature of toxic relationships, on them both as toxic individuals but more so and the overly facile nature of the #BelieveAllWomen branch of feminism. It was an idiotic misstep embraced too readily by people who think misandry and feminism are the same thing.
