No problem for reading. Insightful articles are always worth reading, even if you disagree with them and I've given you a follow so I can make my way through your back catalogue and read whatever is next..
I don't think racism can be ended. That's the simple truth... it's a product of 'in-group/out-group' thinking and that can (at best) be mitigated but it will still exist in one form or another. Identity politics simply sets competing lines of immutable characteristics against each other - and encourages people to think about that world through that lens. It's valid, but unhelpful as a long term strategy. My belief is that it'll make things worse in the long run for all minority groups - something I don't want to happen.. Compettive models of oppression lead to discussions where everyone is trying to outdo each other. Black men vs White Women etc - it's perpetual game of outflanking 'the enemy'.
And in answer to your question. I don't try and end racism, to do so would be a performative action designed to make me appear 'good' in the eyes of others- I work in soclal care and teach teenagers at the weekend, I write plays about complicated issues, volunteer at a soup kitchen on a Monday night and i generally vote left. Those things aren't to end racism, they're part of a personal commitment to engage with the world kindly, compassionately and curiously. If enough people work on themselves instead of trying to change others, the world may change for the better. Whilst it's frustratingly slow, I'd argue that the world was on that course before social media set everyone to broadcast and created ideological chaos.
Thanks for chatting. :o)
