Not a random segue at all... I think both of these individuals is an unreliable narrator for an objective truth. That's what a court of law is there to do.
However, a personality disorder like BPD is complicated. It doesn't allow grey areas to exist. That means Amber Heard is an unreliable narrator who can't see she's an unreliable narrator - Depp is at least able to see that he is part of a problem in the grey area of a complicated relationship.
Their eventual day in court wasn't necessarily forced by him (I don't think) - it was forced by the treatment he endured at the hands of others in society. People who picked a side instead of waiting for more information to emerge.
