Not even a little bit. Nor am I Christian – and I’m not sure why you have inferred that I am. I’m a left wing liberal Brit. I’m not sure whether you didn’t read the article or whether you’ve misunderstood it. My style of British sardonic style can sometimes be lost in translation
The argument being made is that homophobes can equate paedophilia with homosexuality because of the incredibly liberal (and well meaning) position taken by left leaning politicians in the 1970s. The position and tacit endorsement of PIE worked against the acceptance of homosexual relationships. It gave fire to the homophobes and set the LGBTQ+ community backwards.
The argument being made is not that gay = paedophile, that’s a ridiculous position to take. The argument is that people who haven’t thought deeply about what they’re arguing for, inflated by their own sense of self righteousness can (and have) done more harm than good. It’s a slightly clickbait headline, but the invitation is to explore the article and argument thoroughly afterwards.
You can call that pseudo intellectual hogwashery if you like, but I disagree. You’d be hard pressed to find any homophobia or transphobia in my writing – because, to be blunt, I don’t have any. By the same token, I have no problem calling out gay or trans people when I think they are wrong. Equality and inclusion doesn’t have to be nice. It just has to be fair and inclusive.
