Not exactly. I’m criticising the process by which it got made – which has nothing to do with the skin colour of the Levy family.

A lot of the progressive rhetoric is around fairness and equity – but I can assure you as someone who works in the arts, the success of a creative project is often based on who you know, what social capital you have and not on the standard of the work. The discrepancy between what is said and what is acted out in practice is annoying.

Schitts creek happens to be an excellent show – which is why I’m so conflicted about it. Another example is Thunderforce – there’s a reason that film was made, picked up and promoted and it has very little to do with the quality of the work. :o)
