Not just your perspective I suspect…. There’s a definite ideological push on Medium. I think things are often distributed based on writing quality and initial engagement and then gently de-destributed according to political positioning.
It is interesting because I’ve been blocked many times on other people’s walls…. That’s par for the course, some people don’t like being questioned, others like Elle Beau, Tim Wise and Rivka Wolf will give as good as they get. There has been an increase in people showing up in my work or meeting me in the comments of someone else’s work, starting a discussion and when I don’t immediately capitulate they hit the block button.
Medium has been here before with its in-house publications and created a site where about 20 writers fired off their unquestionable beliefs at the rest of us. It led to an exodus of good writers and thinkers and I came close to leaving too. Then last year medium moved itself back into the centre ground…. Now I’m not sure what it’s doing. Anthony Eichberger is pushing for Medium transparency…. And I’m inclined to believe it’s much needed at this stage, if you bin off some of your best writers because they don’t agree with your left-wing staff, you won’t get the wealth of opinion a true marketplace should have.
There seems to be a lot more variety on substack and Medium need to watch this polemicist approach before they lose more talent.
