Of course they did, that's how the game is played. She absolutely did not call for a race riot - and her words were taken out of context and exploited for political gain.
That's not the problem here - the problem is that she said anything remotely explosive before the jury was sequestered. A political public figure giving any indication of how they want a legal process to conclude is grounds for a mistrial. It doesn't matter that you and I agree she didn't mean burn down the roof. It doesn't matter what the meaning of 'confrontational' is in the context she used it.
It doesn't matter what she meant. It matters that she said something with the power to be twisted out of context at exactly the wrong time. It was a stupid thing to do - and tribalism after the fact doesn't help. Politics has to move to a more mature place than... 'but but but you did it last time!' and name calling. She's been a congresswoman for three decades, she should've known better.
