I think what you're suggesting there is an absence of metacognition. The world is so stimulating that most people do not think about how they think. The voice in their head arrives and there are no further questions. Many of those people have terrible negative thoughts with no idea where they come from - I suspect that's why the suicide rate is so high.

And yes, demagoguery provides certainty and belonging in a world which is neither certain nor inclusive. I can see the appeal - and it's precisely because i can see the appeal that I reject it. I just wish I could do the same with smokey bacon flavoured crisps. :o/
