Oh, I love linguistic differences - in London we have the underground and everyone uses Oyster Cards - or their own chip and pin debit cards to get through the gates.

To get the gates to open you have to place your card on the reader. This is called 'tapping in' when you go into the station and 'tapping out' when you leave.

Most people in London don't drive from one place to another - we generally get the busses or trains. All of which belong to TLF (Transport for London) and all of which can be tapped into or tapped out of at your convenience.

Unless of course you get to the front of the queue and you haven't got your card ready. In which case a backlog forms behind you and the whole system falls apart and I go into a full unadulterated rage. :o)
