One could argue in societies where the gender binary is more rigidly observed, there is a lower incidence of poor mental health across the board. Perhaps people with too much choice and too many ways to express their gender are riven with anxiety which spreads into the demos? I rarely meet progressives who are mentally healthy. There is an underlying assumption that more choice is better - but this isn't necessarily true for human psychology.

Having said all of that - I'm also a liberal and couldn't give much of a crap about how people choose to present themselves. I care more about attempts to force others into a particular model of the world, whether that is tolerance at gunpoint, or absolute intolerance for whatever reason. I don't mind there being people who want to express their gender in new and exciting ways - but I also don't mind there are people who dissent entirely to that world view and want no part in it - what needs to be discussed is simply how those two groups co-exist in a shared social space.

As you've said.... you would never accept a return to a strict societal adherence to rigid gender roles - but society is bigger than just yourself - as lovely and as liberal as you are. You are not the moral arbiter for a democratic country, that is the job of the entire demos. :o)
