One of the issues here is her relatively young age - this is always used as a defence against terrible decision making and 'people needing to be aware of predatory older forces' - except with Greta Thunberg, who has this exceptional sort of youth that grants her unparalleled wisdom that must not be questioned.

The issue here isn't necessarily that she's wrong about what she's saying. There are huge systemic problems at play - but I liken it to the tub-thumping writers on this platform and others who present a very complicated problem and a very simple solution. History is full of examples of where a simple solution to a complicated problem as resulted in untold death and suffering. Thunberg can be part of the solution, but she is one voice in a complex web of interlocking problems and granting her the keys to the car and free reign for the direction of travel would be pathologically stupid.

If you're an adult and you've got things to say then fine - but you also don't get a free pass from me either. I won't call into question her age necessarily, I think it's disingenuous as a form of ad-hominem, she's an adult and that means she has to be held to adult levels of conversation. When she was 14 and missing school, that was different - I have a lot of respect for a society which holds up the views of children as part of its accountability - but those times have passed. Thunberg will be judged on what she says not the manner in which she says it. Getting up and calling everyone an asshole isn't a) helpful or b) progressive in any meaningful way.
