Penguins appealed for a number of reasons - firstly they're both black and white (and some other colours in between), secondly they do straddle that fish/bird niche, neither one thing or the other. Thirdly, they engage in a whole host of hilariously rebellious behaviours like prostitution, monogamy, males staying with the eggs, lastly and perhaps most importantly of all - they are heckin' cute. :o)

All humans are a paradox - and if they don't know that yet, it's going to be fun finding out. :o)
