People can label me as transphobic or homophobic or whatever they like - because I’m neither of those things, and so it’s not really sticking my neck out - it’s just saying what I believe to be true.

I’m slightly more bullish about a singular ‘they’ - because English has a habit of adapting well around new eventualities. It wasn’t all that long ago we dropped the whole thee, thou, thy and ye nonsense.

I can see it being a practical thing in the long run, because in some ways it makes sense to have a neutral gender - it exists in other languages and English doesn’t mind a bit of flexibility. I’ve got a better feeling for this than I have for nonsense X words like womxn and latinx which aren’t pronounceable.
