Perhaps the margin for error might be higher than 4%, but I can't see how it can get these things so wrong. She might write in a generic way, but Medium shouldn't be promoting someone whose writing talent is mediocre and whose content is generic. If they are, they need to think about the optics on that. It says 'here is what we want, generic bad writers with huge followings'. So, I could be persuaded to give Remi the benefit of the doubt, but Medium should've known better.

I'd like to see the conversion rate on her followers into paid subscribers. I can't see it happening all that much. Sure, it might look like a nice bump in the graph to get more eyes onto the platform - but if what ultimately happens is that we get an influx of generic writers trying their hand at generic writing, what benefit is that? I can't see this as a net positive for Medium at all. Medium is a paywalled club, a club which stakes (at least some of) its reputation on the quality of the work it can generate. If it is going to slowly erode into a sort of literary side-space for TikTok then you're going to see a massive drop off in membership over the long-term. Why should anyone take the platform seriously if it cannot take itself seriously as a place for talented writers and discerning readers.

If she's not making money here then she's building money elsewhere. It's repetitional, it's social media influencer nonsense of the kind awash over most of the internet. I don't think it's a challenging one for Medium at all. She should've got exactly zero traction here relative to her actual writing talent and disregard for the rules, she should've been dissuaded from using the platform as a continuation of attention by any other means and sent packing. Medium gave her a puff-piece and have courted absolute mediocrity.
