Put simply, I believe that everyone in a democracy is born equal. That is it. This belief, fundamental to my Penguin nature - is entirely at odds with Monarchy. Monarchy bestows inequality at birth because it agrees that a particular individual is either a) above the law or b) will become above the law in the fullness of time.

I do not mind inequality arising out of circumstance... people with more money, more privilege, more social capital and less melanin enjoy a disproportionate amount of advantage in our society. I tolerate that, it can be mitigated against (and it is) - but we cannot have inequality baked into the DNA of a democratic country. It ceases to be entirely democratic.

So much as I don't want a farcical BoatyMcBoatface President, or a populist twat signing things in a felt tip pen (your points are valid) to do so, whether or not is a pyrrhic victory, is the only achievable outcome for someone who believes in equality as part of democracy. Everything else about money and tax and other such stuff is just noise. Equality and law are the arguments that matter.

It was broken at source - it needs fixing. :o)
