Russia has a proliferation of Nazis too - and those who are so anti-Nazi they've basically become Nazis. Eichmann was interesting, I thought about using him over Heydrich in this piece, but Heydrich's career-hungry upper middle class ambitions are even more terrifying.

It isn't just fascism which does this - it is almost any extremist position given the power to govern. That was true of the Holy Roman Empire and their inquisitions, ISIS and their caliphate and the Kim family and their 'communism'.

Extreme positions, even here on Medium close down both compassion and curiosity in ordinary people - and echo chambers make the self-analysis required to undo this process much harder.
