Sadly you’re completely correct — gradually Medium has become an online left of centre newspaper. It employs writers, has its own regular journalists and contributors who have regular pay cheques for churning out their articles. Like any hierarchical system you now have to play the game in order to float to the top and I refuse to play the game.

It’s not the Medium I signed up for which was a literary democracy — I’ll continue to write, but not often, and only when the mood grabs me. Most of my writing time is now spent elsewhere. You might enjoy this. I wrote it a few months ago in a similar vein of frustration.
