SC brought me here - and that's high praise indeed. Very insightful article - although SC raises a good point. The value of men and women is perceived differently by the sexes - the value in men is about the power and ability to provide (which I'd argue itself is a tacit form of ownership) - it is this duality of owner/owned which sits deep within our social structure that runs anathema to the aims of feminism.

Or, to make it a bit easier to understand, some women would've put their platforms on and been delighted their boyfriend was 'the sort of guy who paid for the tickets and the popcorn'.

I had the same eye-rolling issue when I listened to lectures on feminism after Wonder Woman.... a film so far entrenched in revealing underwear uniforms, male-rescuers and BDSM fantasy that it was entirely overlooked because Wonder woman was kickass'

I suspect we're going to disagree on a lot, but I'm looking forward to it. Also, looks like you're a newbie - so welcome to Medium. This i s a great place to write, and from reading this thoughtful piece, I can see you're a great writer. I'm a big fan of new intelligent writers arriving on the platform. :o)
