Society is formed by the push and pull of both right and left within a centre ground framework. Both the right and the left have broken away from the shackles of this system and both have created death and chaos.
What seems to be misunderstood in politics is the need for both factions working in opposition and appealing to an ever shifting mostly centre ground demos. Without the left, we’d still be stuck in the ravages of the early industrial revolution, without the right, we’d be living in a confusing and batshit world of policed speech on every issue. Both are necessary.
And make no mistake… progressivism isn’t a left wing set of arguments, nor are they liberal, they leave aside any form of economic redistribution, they centre the ideology of a minority group, and they are often argued with breathtaking authoritarianism. They might claim to be left-wing, but they aren’t. They may claim to be liberal, but they aren’t. That’s why the centre ground liberal is often so reluctant to engage.
