Still enjoying dropping in on the occasional Pratchett journey! Seems to be going well.
This book is much more fun if you're familiar with the Gaston Le Roux novel Phantom of the Opera and the Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber and the British TV comedy 'Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em' starring Michael Crawford (who played the original Phantom in the West End). Some of the clever shit in here wouldn't be immediately accessible to a non-Brit reader.
A lot of Pratchett finally drops into place when you read the source material he's parodying. It took me until last year to figure out the joke 'Walter Plinge'.
Whenever I don't enjoy a Pratchett book, I set it aside... it usually means I haven't caught up with where his general knowledge is yet. So many times I've got a joke years and years after reading.
Here's some classic BBC. Michael Crawford was famous for doing all his own stunts. Insane. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFLpwRMS00g
