Sure — it was well written and there were some lovely moments in the series as a whole, but that isn’t the point I’m making here. The point I’m making is that the world of Schitt’s Creek, whilst wonderful and a sort of LGBTQ+ utopia was born out of immense privilege and nepotism. This runs counter to the arguments of fairness and equity of opportunity that are generally invoked by those who enjoy it. I have no problem with the content of the show itself as as the article makes clear — but if you’re looking for more LGBTQ+ I’d recommend ‘It’s a sin’ — Russell T. Davies didn’t have a gilded pass into the industry via family connections and it shows in the power of his writing.
