Thanks for your comment - and furthering the discussion. The question remains.... how does one tell when a marginalized community becomes a danger to itself and to other people?

Your argument leaves no room for cults, which do no harm to outsiders, but often end up in strawberry cyanide all round. Do we need to intervene in these groups? Or were the Branch Davidians a marginalised group?

This isn't necessarily about my biases, this is about the capacity of people to consider what they're arguing for. Your premise is that a marginalised group can be left alone to its own beliefs provided those beliefs do not spill into action? That's the classic liberal position that I would take....

But that classic liberal position also allows people to be racists, sexists, ableists etc provided they don't act illegally. In short... what's to stop a bunch of racists having a meeting and running a pro-white bring-and-bake sale? Provided they don't break the law, it's a matter of taste. I wouldn't go, neither would you - and I think it'd likely die out in a few generations of its own accord (I'd hope at least).

The problem with 'woke' is that it moves away from classic liberalism (do what you want but don't break the law) into something much more... do what we think is morally correct because we think it. That's a dictat. You and I happen to agree with some of the end points, but I disagree with the methodology of getting there. It's too easily corrupted.... it's far too much like a cult.

Which brings me full circle. Arguing, for example, the rights of trans-people to live in society free from harrassment is an excellent argument. I'm totally on board. It fits with my broadly lefty idea of how the world should be. Being labelled 'transphobic' because you question whether it's appropriate to give puberty blockers to children or change sex before the age of 21, that needs further discussion. The case of Keira Bell here in the UK should indicate why.

You've raised some interesting points in your comment, that's always a good thing, because it allows further expansion and debate to develop.. I'm going to give you a B+ for effort but a B- for daring to contradict me in a world where dissent can be manifested as both offence and oppression.

Just kidding, you can have an A+.
