That is (according to the sources) because many of them were shot in the head after they were raped. That aside, most women are raped by someone they know - the incidence of this sort of rape is very low relatively speaking but it is (arguably) more traumatic because of the context and nature by which it occurred. I suspect any women who survived an experience like this will not be able to talk about it for some time.
