That is the general assumption made by the liberal left - and it's causing chaos on the political left here in the UK. There is the idea that anyone who doesn't immediately jump through whatever batshit woke-hoop is being offered must instantly be a bigot. Large swathes of the working class are defecting to the political right and the response of the liberal left is to call them 'stupid bigots'.

When you move away from a left wing economic argument and stop making the lives of all people better, you split your left wing argument. The middle class who have the time and headspace to do so create a victim pyramid and spend their entire time arguing about where everyone fits. For me it's simple. Poor people are at the bottom. Wealthy people are at the top. There are more black people per head of population at the bottom because of systemic racism, but making the argument that all white people have more privilege than all black people (whilst semantically true) doesn't help. You can make the argument Oprah Winfrey is more oppressed than a homeless white guy, but good luck getting the white homeless population to agree with you. They're more likely to agree with the first right-wing white guy who offers them better job prospects rather than blame

Self protection is indeed the American way, which is why I've long argued for economic socialism. I think that's what you're arguing for too.... You make people less racist and less self-protective by making them more wealthy. Your responses are indeed entirely fair for that reason and on most things we're actually quite aligned. :o)
