That peace would look like the current situation in Northern Ireland after the Good Friday agreement. Power sharing. The cycle of revenge goes back ad-infinitum and there's no point us debating whether or not this country is a product of the Ottoman Empire, British imperialism or biblical birthright. Both parties have a claim to be there and the argument goes circular depending on which side you want to pick and which lens you want to look through.

I don't think Hamas are goading Iran into a confrontation - I think Hamas benefit greatly from Iran being involved in a confrontation in an unstable Middle East and so have started one. Iran have not kept them on a tight enough leash as a proxy force and it has shown up their technical and military deficiencies. Netanyahu would like nothing better than taking down Iran and Hamas provided him the casus belli in order to achieve it. I don't think the US will come and bail him out (especially not under Trump if he gets in) but it has been an excellent opportunity to show up weakness in US foreign policy.

What the Iranian President says and what Iran does are different things. As to Zionism being inherently violent - there's the equal and opposite Hamas charter. There are no good guys at the extreme ends of this political divide.

The solution (as always) comes from the centre ground, in Ireland it was the gradual climbing down of the IRA in favour of Sinn Fein and in Gaza it will be the removal of Hamas in favour of the PLO, and the removal of Netanyahu in Israel - the PLO and centre ground Israelis were getting involved in the Abraham accords when Hamas shunted it sideways and Netanyahu set it on fire.

Power sharing, moderate politicians and coming back from the brink is the way this ends. I grew up being bombed by the IRA and evacuated from school on at least two occasions. I can travel freely in Ireland now without worry, without concern. Peace will come, but in Ireland it took from the 1650s to the 1990s to arrive. :o/
