That sounds abysmal - and yes, it was similar... though there is something in child protection circles where an individual child in an otherwise seemingly functional family gets scapegoated. This girl's siblings were reasonably well treated but it was a good survival strategy for them to also mistreat her. Scapegoating like this is complicated and takes an absolute fucktonne of work to undo the damage. :o/
