That's good. Stay cordial - and hopefully they will come back into the centre ground.

You can't have conversation with those people. You can only be a dissenting voice and you can only do your best to bring reasonable debate. If people won't accept reality, as your Sandy Hook friend seems not to want to - then there isn't much you can do. You just have to accept that some people can't be reached

Instead I would push instead for systematic reform to the echo chambers that have sprung up on both sides and put your efforts into encouraging people off social media and into reasoned discusion and debate.

Yes you could make lists of dire insults by Republicans at Democrats, but don't pretend that doesn't cut both ways. That's disingenous.

Trump's handling of the Pandemic has been attrocious - but the words you use matter, it isn't genocide. It's negligence. He's negligent and iinept and incompetent and American democracy needs to ensure that it can weather this level of ineptitude and malevolence in the future - but it is not genocide. And actually we don't have a difference of opinion on Trump.

Our difference of opinion is summed up in the last section. I'm committed to having reasonable discussion and debate about how to proceed - and you've called me a sociopath and declared that you don't have time and don't want to discuss anything.

And that's what the record will show, that your tolerance and desire to engage was simply empty rhetoric from the outset. You came in kicking hard and you left once you'd broadcast your position.

Have a nice rest of the day.
