That's very true.... but I think cognitive dissonance is a universal. I have a friend who on the one hand acts as an instagram model for a company who underpay their female workforce (because there was a legal case about it) and when she's not doing that, she's sending out feminism memes. When I pointed out the inconsistency her answer was 'I'd like to do more... but it's complicated' I suspect Pepys would've said the same.
