The ability to debate and disagree with respect to each other is one of the fundamental hallmarks of how a democracy functions. Any slide, by either the left or the right, towards control of the discourse and silencing the opposition without regard for their views should be treated with extreme suspicion. The main problem with the left-ist position is that it comes with 'moral good' - they firmly believe in their moral crusade without stopping to consider whether the concept of 'good' is a mutable construct.

There is no remedy for 'cancel culture' as to do so would be to stifle freedom of speech. There's a valid argument to be made that it is simply the market forces of neoliberalism given substance. The best we can hope to do is hope that society learns to listen to it's best thinkers not loudest voices. Given the sort of thing that's popular on Medium at the moment - that does not seem to be the case.
