The age of consent in this country is 16 - and the author says the age of consent where she is was 15. I personally think that's too low and think the age of consent should be raised to 18 across the world - but that's my SUBJECTIVE opinion.
She was 16 and he was 30, the law hadn't been broken and the only viable response is to campaign to change the age of consent. She may say.... I was 16 and I didn't know what I was doing and he took advantage of me - and that may be true.... but the LAW is clear, at the age she was you do understand what you're doing and you are able to consent. You want to protect women, start arguing for raising the age of consent. Don't argue women are fragile creatures who don't understand the implications of their actions. It's infantalising, patronising and misguided.
