The creative world and other narrative forms have been hijacked by a tendency to tell didactic and often autobiographical tales.

Where stories used to exist and compel readers and audiences, they have given way to thinly veiled puff pieces about ‘the self’ which clumsily try and expound a treatise on what’s wrong with the world in general. Endless naval gazing pretending profundity.

It’s time for a new Bechdel test, one centred around characters, plot and scope.
