The idea that one family has a magical bloodline that makes their intrinsic value higher than everyone else’s is abhorrent. It doesn’t fit with the push for an equitable society. That’s true of everyone outside that family regardless of their race or skin colour – if you believe race doesn’t exist then fine, the argument still stands for any person outside that family.

That’s why I’m a republican. Laws can be changed. Monarchies can be voted away, disbanded or removed and there are examples of each in history. Laws of succession can be changed to laws of election provided that was what the government decided. In much the same way Charles I discovered that he wasn’t God incarnate on earth whose every whimsical utterance had to be obeyed. Things change.
