The important thing is the writing, if you cultivate good habits and don’t focus on chasing followers or money, over a period of time you will acquire both.

It took me 2 years to build a regular readership - but it does happen and there is an ebb and flow of writers and readers as well as Medium itself pushing and pulling in different directions. The trick is to show up, read widely, comment a lot, and write regularly and consistently.
