The inevitability of capitalism means that people will profit from 'healing racism' - it's a done deal and will already be happening. There are also many people on Medium profiting from stoking the fires of divisive rhetoric around race - but on this particular issue you're correct. It would've been prudent to invite a black person to write their article - and you were right to turn it down.

However, a lived experience of racism is not necessary to talk about healing from racism. It may be necessary pre-requisite to talk about the damage caused by racism, but there are plenty of insights to be given by social workers, paediatricians, clincial psychologists, historians and school teachers. The colour of their skin is less important than the professional insights that they might bring.

I might even go as far as to say that I'd like to hear from ex-KKK members on how and why they were able to move through their racism. That's a different kind of healing. That story shouldn't take priority, but it's an important piece of the puzzle and valuable information for society to have. As I said before, throwing out a set of voices on a simple technicality like skin colour means that society isn't working together. It means we're heading into self reinforcing echo chambers and being stripped of our ability to communicate like adults.
