The job of feminism isn't to critique men... that's the confusion. The job of feminism is to create a society which is fair to both sexes. That does involve critiquing men but it also involves understanding that their critique in and of itself is only necessary when it is helpful towards an aim of fairness. Feminism critiques both men and women and seeks to balance the advantages and disadvantages of both.

When you simply critique men for being men you're not doing feminism, you're doing misandry. You aren't pushing towards fairness and equality you're pushing towards a system which unequally favours women. That's fine, you can do that - but it isn't feminism.

As an aside, the 'patriarchy' has become a catch-all term for 'anything I don't like' - it's amorphous and ill-defined and is frequently used in debates as such. For the record males living under patriarchy also threw up Ghandi, Nelson Mandela and the United Nations and a whole host of other non-violent things.
